Most Americans Okay with Reducing Number of Postal Delivery Days
While Congress remains unreceptive to U.S. Postmaster General John E. Potter’s request that the USPS be allowed to reduce postal delivery days from six to five, most Americans support the proposal according to a recent Gallup poll. The Postmaster General believes that reducing the number of delivery days could help save the USPS up to $3.5 billion annually.
The current economic downturn, along with increased competition from the Internet and from private carriers as well as rising gas prices, have put the U.S. Postal Service in a critical position. According to the Gallup poll, 76% of Americans consider it ‘very important’ that the USPS remain in operation.
